How We Approach Product Strategy Before Development
A practical look at how product direction becomes clearer before a team commits to building.

Product strategy is often mistaken for a feature roadmap. A roadmap answers what a team expects to build. Strategy answers a harder question: what should the product become, for whom, and why is that direction worth pursuing?
Our approach starts with the problem and the people around it. Before choosing features, we want to understand the user, the business context, the existing workflow and the constraints that could change the shape of the solution.
The next step is deciding what matters most. A product can have a long list of possible improvements, but an initial strategy should make trade-offs visible. Which problem is most important? Which audience should be served first? What must be true for the product to be useful? What can wait?
This is where research and strategy connect. Research gives us evidence, while strategy turns that evidence into a smaller set of decisions. Those decisions then guide design and development instead of leaving each stage to rediscover the problem.
We also try to keep strategy close to reality. Budget, technical constraints, operational workflows and adoption behaviour are not side notes. They can change what the first version should be and how the product should be introduced.
A good strategy should make the next build easier to understand. Everyone should know what the product is trying to achieve, who it is trying to help and what has intentionally been left out of the first phase.
That is the practical value of product strategy: not producing more documents, but reducing uncertainty and helping a team make better decisions before the cost of changing direction becomes high.
